Best value supermarket wines right now

Nine wine experts at have spent the last 18 months tasting more than 4,000 bottles of supermarket wine to come up with what they think is the “fair” value of each bottle, then compared it with the actual prices.

The best deals on at the moment were found to be at Lidl, with their the Palomar Creek Zinfandel - priced at £4.99 but worth £10 – and the Clairette de Die Tradition, on sale for £6.99 but worth £12.

As a rule of thumb, the own-brand and Taste The Difference and Finest ranges tend to be discounted less and offer better value than many of the others, so if you find one you like they're good default options.
